Song Notes:
This is one of the few songs on this mixtape that took about 2 years to complete. The initial beat came about in 2009, but it was more techno electronic dance pop. I decided to take the direction to something more relaxed, more melodic, and less club-banger like. The second part that proved to be difficult was to find the right voice that fit the vibe and the song. Jae was an old friend from church youth retreats (MSBFF I see you!) and we had been planning to record tracks for years. During the writing process, around May-June 2011, Jae and the rest of the “Moistly Crew” came thru and just vibed out on the track and all creatively co-wrote the sung verses as to what they felt would fit. This group dynamic proved well, as the song’s lyrics and melodies (the first verse melody inspired by “My Love” by Justin Timberlake) melded into a beat that represents the war of emotion. I wanted the beat to have that sense of clash, melding Byzantine dulcimers with new school electronic sounds; as well as the war march snares against crash cymbals. Even the rhythms are at war, slowing down and speeding up as the speed of conflict tends to do.
lyrics
(Jae)
If you wrote me a symphony
Would it play like your heart’s melody (what would it do)
You used to say that I was beautiful
But now you saying that to other girls
Now I’ve been stressing day and night
I liked it better when I used to fight (With you)
I miss the time we had it all
And now my life is going down, free fall
You used to fight for me
I said I’d die for you
Without you in my life
I got nothing to lose
This war has to end
Sometime soon
(Jae & D Hype)
If we let us fade
What would we have after all?
(Jae)
Another chance to make things right
This war has to end
Sometime soon (Sometime soon)
(D Hype)
Why can’t we connect?
They told me if I cop this service
We’d never have to go through a disturbance
This turbulence way past correcting
Guess this gonna be our last moment of affection
Freefalling, no strings,
Adrenaline so you gotta scream
You peddling hitting 21 speeds but you can’t go back in time
Far enough to impede hand off the vaccine
Nothing ever what it seems
In every face another dream, another scene
The last thing I seen, sky so serene,
Venus was passing,
Red dot flash, Kodak assassin
A mask, couple stars advancing
A Hanzo
Gets blurry before I catch the fury
Reach for my sword in a hurry
No debating she got the best of me
Heart aching
(Jae)
You used to fight for me
I said I’d die for you
Without you in my life
I got nothing to lose
This war has to end
Sometime soon
(Jae & D Hype)
If we let us fade
What would we have after all?
(Jae)
Another chance to make things right
This war has to end
Sometime soon (Sometime soon)
(Izzy)
This is the war that I fought
When I built the castle wall
I never had a better call to fight
Thicker than a wicker basket
I pass the thought
If you can’t plan for the day
You won’t pass the night
Time to be vigilant militant
I’m in it to win it man
Fit the bill again
If she’s over 9000
I am a billion, trillion
That’s why I be
Spitting in planets
My flow is Saturn and mars
I go in patterns and bars
I hold tattered, and scarred
We won’t shatter we hard
You talk yadda yadda, so far
The only jam you serve
Is on platter and jar
Kilimanjaro;
You are another mountain
Takes weeks to reach the peek
But who’s counting
I am the sky you are a star
Only came close when we so far
(Jae)
