Artwork Notes:
“In these hard economic times, many people find themselves lost. When I took this photograph, I was inspired by the beauty of the sun pouring through the buildings juxtaposed to the rubble, and finding the beauty and balance between the two. Within that, I feel that this is where we are: always finding the balance between the beauty and the rubble. Finding this balance is what makes you alive. You have to learn to find hope within the rubble. When Izzy asked me to think about the song and its meaning and how to perceive it, I instantly thought of this moment when I photographed this site. We chose to change the hue and color of the sun in order to change the feel of the image and to perhaps illuminate positivity and action. We also found inspiration in the famous Oscar Wilde quote, because no matter how bad it gets, we can always look up to the stars for inspiration and truth.”

Song Notes:
This track was originally sampled and produced by HBrooks, one of many in his huge library of amazing instrumentals and songs. HBrooks has been making music for more than 5 years now, and as soon as I met him, connected through Stephanie Kay, our music psyche and chi melded almost immediately. This dude’s home setup is legit, and I being to ape it in order to make my music sound fuller, richer, realer. When he came to visit my studio in Queens, he smiled at the “mini HBrooks studio” I had setup, as his techniques immediately taught me how to make professional sounding music. After listening and vibing out to this track, he invited me to expand on it. Noticing a chance to impact his music the way he impacted mine, I jumped at it and what you hear is the outcome. His raw drum patterns and use of sample became the backbone with which I built flesh out of melodies and harmonies. D Hype also felt compelled to add some drum flourishes of his own, and in turn gave the beat much flavor, not unlike a stew or a gumbo. We felt a very serious tone to this song during the writing process, and with the current financial situation of America and the people taking action through the various “Occupy _____” spanning cross-country, we felt the need to make a song relevant about these issues. We all know what it’s like to be poor and what it’s like to work hard for scraps; we also know what it’s like for people to complain and never work for what they deserve. Our wish is to bring light to positivity and hope throughout the struggles we all face on the daily.
