Artwork Notes:
This piece was digitally created by Izzy Man. I wanted to capture the way the music splashes across the ears the way paint splashes and drips onto canvas. Like any symphonic movement, it entails many different elements that fuse into one coherent and emotional piece. Color me is a song about how love can bring color to an otherwise drab life, the way the primary colors can drastically change the mood of a pale white canvas.

Song Notes:
I was inspired to write this song after watching an old rerun of Bob Ross & The Joy of Painting. This feeling of accomplishment, beauty, and creativity was something I wanted to instill through song. Color me is a song that started off completely different; it had a sunny guitar riff, bouncy drum pattern, autotuned first verse and hooks. It was bouncy, fun, and… repetitive. I grew tired quickly listening to the repetitive loop, not being able to figure out how to change the song (as I took the loop from a library of loops) and honestly I didn’t feel like it was a song I made, but more of a song I built off another song. It didn’t feel entirely mine. I had recorded some vocals, as well as Ayinde’s verse (which to date, is one of my favorite verses from Ayinde. His wordplay on this track is superb) but I was not satisfied with my lyrics, my flow, and the flow of the song. I tore the beat apart, and while playing around with some bass lines, I created the beginning riff, and it took off from there. This song, if you haven’t already guessed, is an homage/nod towards my favorite band N.E.R.D. and my favorite producer/idol Pharrell Williams. I didn’t want to ape their sound, but definitely wanted to have their feel. Ayinde’s vocals fit so well on the track, and I changed my verses and vocals accordingly. This song immediately became more fun to write to, perform, and record. Albeit the riff does repeat throughout the track, there were enough additions and accents that made the song different from verse to verse. Imagine each instrument is a mountain; a tree; a lake. Hopefully in the end it paints something that Robert Ross would’ve been proud of.

If I could be the finger running through your locks
You be the canvas, I’ll be Bob Ross
Slow down, there’s no need to
Rush this
Now let me show you how to brush
You make a month feel like a day
Turn weeks into art with a bit of clay
Become
The pottery that you wanted to be
We got frames to make
Plant a bit of the paint here
We could even rock
Clean smocks
Spotted a bit
You took the black and white put a little tint in it
Tie dye my kiss
I miss it
The time we got paint all over the hearts like this

You’re the orange in the sun
Before the night sky
You’re the pink beneath the cloud
That I see in your eye
Bloom in the blue
Mellow within the yellow
Into the green
You color me (Color me)
You’re the red
But instead
Of stop
You make my heart go
Indigo
Into purple tones
Without you I could never even see
Yo, you color me

Let me draw you a tree
Sketch out a leaf
Maybe we could be
Adam and eve
Never having to leave
The place that we call paradise
The way I’m living life,
It’s been so
Black and white
Like an old Motorola
Waiting for my page to be filled
By Crayola
I would draw the line
Sorry, I don’t even know ya
But the way you move
And the way you smile
Adds a lot of hue
And a lot of style
Lady I would run a mile
You don’t gotta stay in line
If you’re gonna be here for awhile
It’s been so long since I tried to make
A masterpiece, the last one didn’t take
I’ll paint this bush maybe shade a bit
Shh, this’ll be our little secret

You’re the orange in the sun
Before the night sky
You’re the pink beneath the cloud
That I see in your eye
Bloom in the blue
Mellow within the yellow
Into the green
You color me (Color me)
You’re the red
But instead
Of stop
You make my heart go
Indigo
Into purple tones
Without you I could never even see
Yo, You color me

(Ayinde)
I used to feel war torn
But you’ve been with me from the start
If love was a battle you would get a purple heart
Or any other color that you would want
I find
Even if it’s not upon the spectrum line
I was loving in the past, uh
But a true color showed
So now I’m looking for a new box
Of Crayola crayons
To remove from the old
I red
A little of your heart
To analyze a future with you and me
Hey
I pink-y swear you’re the best
So all you need to know is that
You blue me away
Hope you’re feeling up my jazz
I want to spend the paper that’s the color of the grass
On you
Let’s have a bright world full of fun
We are the color prism
And our love is the
Sun

(Izzy)
Take the time and you’ll see
We need RGB
Add some CMYK
Yo, we do this all day.
